In addition to the special Shengxiao collection of coins to mark the Chinese New Year, the UK’s Royal Mint also produces special annual versions of its Britannia silver bullion coin to commemorate the Chinese lunar new year.
Reverse
The reverse of the coin features Philip Nathan’s elegant design of Britannia, standing on a windswept shore with waves at her feet, with her trident, shield, and olive branch in her hands.
Obverse
Like the normal Britannia bullion coin, the 2017 Silver Lunar Britannia Rooster bullion coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, designed by Jody Clark.
Unlike the normal Britannia coins which have a reeded edge, the Lunar coins feature a smooth edge with privy marks incused around the edge. For 2017, the privy mark features a rooster, to commemorate the Year of the Rooster.
These exclusive privy mark coins have always been popular with investors. Because they’re no longer being minted, this could be your last chance to get your hands on this special 2017 Year of the Rooster coin. Hurry to get yours before supplies run out.
