In addition to the special Shengxiao collection of coins to mark the Chinese New Year, the UK’s Royal Mint also produces special versions of its Britannia silver bullion coin to commemorate the Chinese lunar new year.
Reverse:
The reverse of the coin features Philip Nathan’s elegant design of Britannia, standing on a windswept shore with waves at her feet, with her trident, shield, and olive branch in her hands.
Obverse:
Like the normal Britannia bullion coin, the 2016 Silver Lunar Britannia Monkey bullion coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. 2016 was the first year to feature the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark.
Unlike the normal Britannia coins which have a reeded edge, the Lunar coins feature a smooth edge with privy marks incused around the edge. For 2016, the privy mark features a monkey, to commemorate the Year of the Monkey.
These special privy mark coins have always been in high demand and short supply. And because they’re no longer being minted, supplies are even more limited. Don’t wait any longer to get your hands on these beautiful and special privy mark coins.
